Introduction

My name is Molly Fitzgerald, and I am a super senior. I am an advertising major and psychology minor. I will finally graduate this December and I could not be more excited! I am only enrolled in 3 classes this semester because that is all I need to graduate. I am in this class, my capstone, and one other JMC class that I need. It sounds like a light load but I am using the “spare time” to work my two jobs.

I have spent my entire college career as a full time student and a full time employee of at least one job. A majority of the time I have had two. I have had to work so hard because I am fully financially responsible for myself.

I spent my entire summer in school as well as working as an intern with Enterprise Holdings. They own Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Rent-A-Car, and Alamo Rent-A-Car. I am now a part time employee with them. I am also working of the University of Oklahoma Athletic Marketing department this semester.

Something many people find interesting is that I am originally from Stillwater, OK. I grew up yelling “Go Pokes” and bleeding orange, but as you can all see, I saw the light!
Right now, my biggest focus and stress in my life is what to do come December. I have a few different opportunities when it comes to a future career and I have no idea which path to take. I feel thankful that I have job offers already, but its difficult to pick when each location and position is so different!

I spend a lot of time watching Netflix like a typical college student, and I have no shame to mention that I am a frequent guest at The Mont. The managers know me by name. I might love swirls.

If you want to know anything else about me, please ask! I am a very open and honest person, and I love meeting new people!

  1. It's good to meet you Molly. I've only ever been to The Mont a couple of times and have never had a swirl, but I'll have to give it a shot since you hold them in such high regard. Congratulations on almost being done; college is never easy especially not if you have to pay your way through all by yourself. I hope that everything works out for you come December! Good luck.

  2. Hello Molly! I went to the Mont a few times and their swirls are really good. Had me feeling some kind of way after one drink. I think it is really cool that you are financially responsible for yourself, as someone who just looked at their bursar's balance, I know how stressful that can be sometimes. It was nice getting to know you more personally and I hope you enjoy your LAST semester as an undergrad!

  3. I have got to say I'm glad you turned away from the dark side and came to Norman! I feel for you on being financially responsible for yourself through college. I've been lucky and my parents take care of school for me but my boyfriend is in the same boat as you. It gets really hard on him at times but if anything it's building yalls character and you guys should be really proud of yourselves. I know it's nowhere close to being easy so I tip my hat to you and wish you lots of luck in your final semester!

  4. That's great that you have been able to do college on your own terms, Molly — and to have different possibilities to choose from as you look at the exciting next adventure in your life. Maybe you can use the project for this class as a way to explore those possibilities and think about what kind of "story" you want your life to be in the future! Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the class and that it will be a good way to look at new kinds of stories and to explore your own storytelling voice! Advertising and marketing work best when there is some kind of story involved after all... one of my favorite advertising stories is that one about the dog who is worried about his bone: do you know that one? So sweet... let me see if I can find it at YouTube: yep, that was easy!

It's an ad... and also such a great story, without any words at all!

  7. Hi Molly, it's nice to meet you! Wow two jobs and full time? That's amazing because I was enrolled full time every semester without working and I thought that was a lot haha. I'm so happy for you that you are in your last semester!! I'm really glad you came over to the good side (BOOMER!!). Well it was really nice to meet you!

  8. Nice to meet you Molly! I too am working a full time job while being a full time student along with other responsibilities. It is tough but once you get the hang of it, it isn't that bad. However my sleep schedule probably begs to differ, haha. Congratulations on graduation! I am sure that you are more than excited! I love renting from Enterprise! I am actually thinking of buying me next car there. Anyway, I am glad that you have seen the light! I hope you have a great rest of your semester.

  9. Hello, Molly! I understand what it feels like to be fulltime in work and school. For a couple years at the beginning of my college career I was fulltime. I eventually switched to part-time, and then had to quit as the classes got tougher. I'm really pleased for you that you can do so much and still be on top of everything! For all the years I have lived in Norman, I have still never been to the Mont. Perhaps I will soon, and I'll be sure to keep your recommendation for a Swirl in mind!

  10. Hi Molly!

Capstone is pretty rough, I am in it this semester too! It is so draining for one class and then having other classes makes it even more exhausting. I've actually never been to The Mont. I've heard that their queso and their swirls are the way to go. I must go there and try them before I graduate in May. Best of luck to you this semester! You can do it!

  11. Hey Molly! You are one hardworking gal. Looks like you have a very good future in store for you. I have a friend who was just like you that is originally from Stillwater and then came to OU and she is one of my many close friends now. The Mont is still one of the few places I have not been to yet even though people say it is the “Norman” thing to do. But there will be one day that me and my girlfriend go and eat there. Good luck to you and hope to read your stories this semester!

  12. Wow! You are definitely one busy super senior! I'm paying my way through college through loans and scholarships while working, so I have an idea how you feel. However, I'm also close enough to live with my parents, which has helped lighten my load a little bit.

I'm only a junior, and the thought of what I will do after I graduate is already stressing me out too. It's weird to think that I won't be in school anymore!

    Best of luck with everything!!!

  13. You definitely have had a busy college career. This will definitely look good to employers since you know how to balance work. It’s really great that you are graduating this semester. I’m graduating next semester and I have somewhat of an idea of what I would like to do, so I understand you not exactly know where you go fro there. I like drinking at the Mont too since its really chill there and I like drinking the swirls too.

  14. Wow! I can’t imagine working two jobs and going to school. I work one job and go to school and find that I barely have any free time. I wish you luck in choosing wish direction to take with your career. I know how that can be because I’ve struggled with it myself. I like the Mont as well but I am more a fan of their cherry limeades!

  15. Hi Molly! I think that you have a really interesting combination with your advertising major and psych minor. Why did you choose to do that? And whether or not it was your choice to be financially independent, I commend you for it! I know a lot of people cannot mentally, physically, and emotionally handle the daily stresses and struggles that you must encounter with all of your obligations. Congrats on graduating in less than two months, and I hope all goes well for you! :)

  16. Hello Molly!

I loved reading your introduction! I bet you have super senioritis for sure! This is a good class to be in for your last semester I suppose! I think that it is so impressive for you to work one or two jobs your whole college career. This semester I am also working two jobs and it is definitely tough to balance during school, but I think it will prepare you for the real world! I just turned 21, so I am looking forward to trying a swirl soon :) Best of luck with everything!

  17. Hey Molly! I enjoyed getting to know a little bit about you. That's so exciting that you're graduating in December. I graduate in May and I'm thinking about the same things! It's amazing at the same time it's nerve wracking. I'm impressed that you're working so much and completing school, that's a great accomplishment. Good luck with the rest of the semester!

  18. Hi Molly,
You sound like a busy person! But congrats on graduating in about a month! I’m graduating then too, so I know how you feel. It’s awesome that you already have so many job opportunities ahead of you. I didn’t know what I was going to do after graduation until a few months ago. I was planning on getting a jump start on the job hunt, but then my job offered to take care of my tuition for grad school. I hope you find the right job opportunity for you!

  19. Hey, Molly!

Wow, advertising and psychology? That sounds like a lot of fun and a wonderful mix of topics! Do they blend well with each other? Bless your heart for being able to work two jobs! I can hardly handle my 15 hours of school… Also, I’m glad you came to your senses and became a Sooner ;) Did you watch that game this weekend?!

I lol’d when I read your comment on my introduction! Yeah, I have a lot of rabbits (there’s one glaring at me right now because I stopped petting him to type out this comment, haha) but I wouldn’t trade them for anything!

One of the great things about December is that I can now listen to Blake Shelton’s Christmas album (“Cheers, It’s Christmas”) without judgement! If you haven’t heard “Oklahoma Christmas” you’re missing out! It’s a duet he does with Reba and it’s just gold, really.

    Sorry, this got long…
