Famous Last Words: Week 15

This will be my final “Famous Last Words” post… and let me just say…I ONLY NEE FOUR MORE POINTS!

I guess I am going to wait for the comment groups to open tomorrow, so I can post my comments and be done with this class!

Not that I did not enjoy this class, because I did, but I have so much other stuff to catch up on, it will be so nice not thinking about this class anymore!

I feel bad for my boyfriend because he has tests this week, next week, and finals week! I feel like I have it somewhat easy finishing everything up on Monday.

But I guess that’s the beauty of taking an easy semester of classes for my last semester.

If anyone is an Ad or PR major and will be taking capstone next semester, I highly recommend you come to the presentations on Monday so you can see what you will be doing. I wish I would have went last semester so I would have been better prepared for the course, but hey, you live and learn, right?

Currently, I am trying to come up with anything I can write about in order to reach my word minimum because I really just want to go to bed! I had a long day and have another one tomorrow! I am very excited yet nervous for my interview tomorrow and could probably use some good sleep!

These last few weeks have been so stressful with capstone deadlines that I really have not slept well. I think my lack of sleep and stress has also made me feel a little sick. But I just keep reminding myself that it is ALMOST over! I only have a few more days!

Congrats to all the other graduating with me in a few weeks! And good luck to the rest of you continuing your college careers!

Famous Last Words: Week 14

Oh, yet another Famous Last Words post! If you want me to be completely honest, I am doing what I can to mix and match assignments in order to get my last few points in the class!

I have completely overwhelmed and incredibly busy with my capstone class! It is finally coming to an end on Monday at 10am! That is when we give our final presentations to our client and that is when I am free from all undergrad work! I am honestly really excited to give this presentation because my group and I have worked SO hard to put this campaign together! We have spend 12+ hours together at a time to perfect everything, so I believe we deserve this chance to shine.

Surprisingly, I have no actual “finals” during finals week, so once the presentation is over I am free from this world called college! Well, at least for now!

I have thought about going to grad school, but I think I would rather wait and see if I can work for a company that will pay me to do so. If that does not happen, maybe ill end up in school again later down the road, but not now. As of now, I need a break!

I feel like this entire semester flew by! It was like I blinked and all of a sudden I am about to graduate. I am very nervous to graduate because although I have been in a lot of interviews and multiple round of interviews with multiple companies, I have not been offered a position I want.

One company did offer me a position, but I politely declined because it just did not feel right. I knew I could do better, so that is what I am trying to do. I actually have another interview tomorrow morning for a position that I would really enjoy working. So keep your fingers crossed for me!

Famous Last Words: Week 13

Wow! I do not know about the rest of y’all, but I really enjoyed my Thanksgiving break!

With graduation around the corner, everything is wrapping up! But of course as it wraps up, there just becomes more and more to do it seems! So having a few days of traveling and family time was just what I needed to escape!

My boyfriend and I left Tuesday morning and flew to Houston. I seem to always have flight issues, but this time everything we perfect! We left a nice 60 degrees Oklahoma and landed in a nice 70 degrees Texas. For me it was a little odd because I am very used to all of the fall holidays being cold. So being able to go outside by the pool in November was a different experience!

We went to the Rockets game on Wednesday with his family and then had dinner on Thursday evening. Overall, it felt like a REALLY short trip, but it was for sure fun! Christmas break we will be able to stay there a little longer, so I am looking forward to that.

We flew back Friday morning so we could go have dinner with my family Friday night and were welcomed back to a freezing cold Oklahoma! Not what I wanted at all! Thankfully, we got back and to my grandparents house before the actual ice storm hit. I was not looking forward to having to drive on any ice!

We returned to Norman this afternoon, and now we are getting back into the whole school thing for the last few weeks of the semester. I think the most exciting thing about today is that I only have 20 days until I graduate! What a relief!

With this class wrapping up, and my capstone wrapping up, I feel like I am in pretty good shape to end this semester!

Famous Last Words: Week 11

Well if anything is going right in my life currently, it would be my capstone! Our final project is finally coming together and looking great! I cannot wait until we present and I can just be done with this project forever!
The class and the group meetings have taken over my life completely. I need it to be over so I can have social life again!

Some exciting news in my life:

My class ring came in! YAY! I’m not sure why but I was so excited when it came in! I guess it makes it seem a little more “real” that I am actually graduating.

To add to that mentioned above, my graduation announcements came in! That is kind of exciting I guess, but lets be honest, I am not looking forward to addressing all of those and then wring thank you notes later.

My most exciting news is that my trip to NYC is finalized and planned for good! I cannot wait! I have never been to NYC so I am really looking forward to this! I am going the first week of January, so I am hoping it is snowy and like a Christmas wonderland of some kind!

I guess you could call this random news, but, I went to trivia night at O'Connell's with my boyfriend and his friends and well, WE WON! Yup, first place! And we got $50 to use at the restaurant for winning! WOOHOO!

In other news…

I would love it if just ONE of the companies I have interviewed with would get back to me with a “yes” or “no” as to whether or not I will work for them after I graduate!

I am getting so stressed out by this whole “job hunt” thing and I need a job like ASAP. I really do not want to serve tables again. I would love a salaried job. I feel like these dreams are not too crazy, so I need to make them happen!

Famous Last Words: Week 10

Well Halloween week and weekend for most is a time to dress up, go to the bars, and just be crazy! And if that was you, I am not judging at all! Trust me, I used to, I just cannot do it anymore! 

However, my boyfriend and I decided to use Halloween weekend to relive our childhoods!

Friday we decided to fight the rain and head to the Science Museum of Oklahoma! It used to be called the Omniplex. Growing up in Oklahoma we would take class field trips there every few years. This was my first time back since I was in about 3rd grade, so I was not sure what to expect.

Surprisingly, it was really fun! The exhibits are really interesting, and interactive, and the coolest thing of all is that they have a Segway course! I thought we were going to go in there and be surrounded by little kids everywhere, but I guess the rain kept a lot people home.

We then decided we did not want to deal with a ton of college students drunk and in costumes all over Norman on Friday night, so we decided to stay in and watch all of the Ocean’s movies (Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, and Ocean’s 13). I had never seen any of them, but ended up really liking them!

Saturday was spent doing a whole lot of NOTHING. We watched football and baseball, and carved pumpkins. Honestly, carving pumpkins is one of my favorite holiday traditions so I am glad I convinced my boyfriend to do it even though it was last minute!

Today I have been posted up at the Biz almost all day trying to get ready for this week! Between classes, homework, projects, work and interviews, I’ve got a busy week ahead! I am a little stressed, but hey, isn’t that what college is all about?

Famous Last Words: Week 9

I wish I had posted one of these each week for the last three weeks because I have been SO busy doing so many things! 

Lets all rewind to OU/TX weekend. I know, I know, its painful but the good news is, I was not there! Therefore, I will not talk about it! That weekend I left Oklahoma Thursday morning and drove I-35 south to Houston, TX. Some of you may be wondering why I would spend my last OU/TX weekend as a student in Houston rather than Dallas. Well, the answer is very simple…I had to be a good girlfriend and go to a wedding with my boyfriend. Sounds like a lame excuse but hey, we all make sacrifices, right?

Then the following weekend I got right back on I-35., but this time I was headed north! Destination? Kansas City!
I made a deal with my boyfriend that since I missed the Red River Rivalry for him, he was going to need to come spend a weekend with me celebrating my niece’s 2nd birthday. I mean, what 21 year old guy doesn’t want to spend a weekend listening to a little girl yelling “Minnie Mouse” all day long.

And of course this weekend was homecoming. Who doesn’t love homecoming, right?
Well, this year hit me in a different way.
Being born and raised in Stillwater, I know how important homecoming is there. I spent many years as a child and even teen going to that parade. I even went up for a few homecoming celebrations since I have been in college. Hearing the news about the accident was terrifying. I had no idea if my family or friends were involved or injured or anything. It took a while to get a hold of everyone, but thankfully, everyone I knew was okay. The entire situation gave me a brand new perspective on life and how easily it can be changed.

I could get into a lot more detail but this is not a diary, it is blog for a class. I just ask that any of you who read this, please keep the friends and families of those involved in your thoughts and prayers.

Famous Last Words: Week 3

For the first time in three weeks, I am posting things ahead of time! Why in the world would I do such a thing? Well, I will be going to Dallas, TX tomorrow to continue celebrating my one year anniversary with my boyfriend, and I DO NOT want to be worrying about homework!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, celebrating dating “anniversaries” is kind of lame, but I am 100% a typical woman, so I will find any reason to be "lovey-dovey" and celebrate whatever the heck I can.

Our actual anniversary was Wednesday. We went to have dinner at a Brazilian Steakhouse. Let me just tell you, if you’ve never been to one, GO! NOW! (unless you are a vegetarian) That’s because it is unlimited steak, chicken, pork, lamb, and lots of other meats that I probably had no idea I was eating! They can be kind of fancy places, and definitely pricey, but if you find a reason to celebrate go try it! The dinner was a surprise for me, even though I figured it out before we got there. You see, I am very good at surprising him, and he tries to do the same for me, but I am pretty good at figuring this stuff out ahead of time. It is super sweet that he tries though!

Nevertheless, now we are extending our celebration in Dallas this weekend. We will be going to watch the game with some friends tomorrow night at a local bar, then going to six flags Sunday morning and the New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys game Sunday night! The tickets to the game are my gift to him. He is from New York originally so whether it’s the NY Giants playing or the NY Yankees playing, I know to get the tickets as soon as I can! I have never been to an NFL game at all, so I’m excited about that, but to be COMPLETELY honest, I think I am most excited about six flags!

Famous Last Words: Week 2

Once again, my “Famous Last Words” post is all about hectic and busy life outside of school. This weekend was no different. I spent all day Friday running errands in Oklahoma City. I like to think it was productive, but in reality, I just spent way too much money.

Saturday morning came excessively quick. While most of the University of Oklahoma students and fans were setting up their tailgates, I was setting up the stadium. As an intern for the University of Oklahoma Athletics Marketing department, we are responsible for well, everything. (Okay, okay, not everything, but A LOT!)

I had to be at the stadium and ready to work 4 hours prior to kick off. Anything that you see before the game when it comes to videos, announcements, on field recognitions (basically everything excluding actual football), goes through us in the Athletics Marketing. We have to be sure everything happens at a certain time and is finished at a certain time. We are the ones who make sure there are no hiccups in the game events.

It was my first game to work, so it was very overwhelming to say the least. I left the game that night shortly after the time ran out and I think it was the most exhausted I had ever felt!

I am glad my first game is out of the way though, because I am super excited for our game against Tulsa now! Well, excited for everything except the fact I have to be there at 6:00AM! That will be difficult but worth it in the end.

The most enjoyable part of the game was being so close to the action! In my four years of being a student in the stands, I never would have imagined I would get to be on the field, level with the players, watching the game! Thankfully, that dream has become a reality for my final semester of school.

Famous Last Words: Week 1

Most of my weeks consist of very little class time balanced with a lot of work time! This week was of course no different.

I started Monday trying to make sure I had everything ready to go for the semester, but of course, the bursar and my advisor were missing things from me. I had to run around campus all morning getting the correct forms and papers filled out and signed.
From there, I had work with both Enterprise and the University of Oklahoma Athletic Marketing throughout the week, but thankfully had Thursday night off.

My job at Enterprise is always interesting. If any of you have ever worked in any kind of customer service job, then you understand the kind of interesting I am talking about. People are one of kind, and it seems I always get the most extreme and most unique when I work my shifts at Enterprise.

Working for the University of Oklahoma Athletic Marketing department has actually been really fun so far. I’m going to go ahead and encourage everyone to go to as many soccer games as possible, and if they ask you to volunteer for a game, DO IT! We have some really fun things happening this season!

I used my first night off to take my boyfriend out for a drink and a cigar. I had promised him back in February when he turned 21 that we would go to a cigar and whiskey bar for his birthday, but really, that was all a lie because I had a giant surprise party already planned for him elsewhere. It is only six and half months late, it still counts, right? He was gone all summer working in Houston so it was halfway a “welcome home” and halfway “here is your birthday promise that I never intended to keep.”

I hope that as my semester goes on, Ill be able to post more exciting things about my weeks, especially about some football games or something sports related.
